The sad part is I think it's getting worse instead of better, most of the time I can't get someone to answer even a simple question:
Seller: Selling dragon sword
Me: How much damage/cost
Seller: 13-19
Me: How much?
Seller: Make me an offer
Me: ok 300 gold
Seller: Not enough
at that point I just gave up the only thing I can reliably sell/buy are collector items in towns that have better armor...
At this point I would love an auction house to just put my stuff up and let it sell...

Personally, I salvage anything that's not max damage. I see no reason to keep subpar items floating around the economy.
That's not to say that I wouldn't greatly appreciate something like an auction house though; however, one must consider how an auction house would effect the material trader economy if crafting materials were allowed to be sold on the auction house. If this became so, doubtless the material trader would become obsolete unless his markup prices were reduced and buying prices increased.
My conclusion: An auction house would be good no matter the cost - I don't use the material trader anyways because I can buy materials off of people cheaper anyways.

Just my two cents about the Materieal Trader. I've never use him anymore cause most of the time the Merchant buys thing from you for more, and if not, than chances are you have higher end materials, and can sell them to other people for a higher price. and i'd never buy from the Materials trader cause of the high prices anyway.

Well, I want the auction house so that the traders will get out of the local channel.
I know that is what the Trade Channel is for, but aparently this is too hard.
Plus, I would like to find a buyer for all these major runes I keep finding for other professions.
The key to the auction house is only have the adds in the auction house. Inventory would be a problem. Some people would use the auction house for extra storage, if the item no longer took a spot in the F9 box. So the auction house is for the add, a person can arrange to buy the item and the seller can update the item as sold from wherever they are. Then they get together and trade. No exploitation of the auction house, but still there is a way to sell stuff that does not include spam.

The auction house won't be much better, sadly.
Unlike most games, where you have your ring of whatever, your ring of whatever +1, etc...almost all rare/uncommon items in GW are unique on some level. While it's not unfathomable you might see three 6-28 sundering half-moons of deathbane on the market, just think...with all of the different combinations of upgrades and bonuses, the listings in the auction house will be very, very, very extensive.

you should be able to post the item, say [#] of [item] for [#]gold. The person can byuy while ur away. That would save the time of selling everything.

their should be a computer NPC where you place an item set the amount you want it to sell for............and players can browse through the items and if they wish to pay the amount specificed.............instead of speading countless hrs trying to sell something or trade messages been spammed

Sure there will be a lot of rubbish for sell, but as long as it cuts down most of the trade spam it suits me fine.
Its annoying when one person is spamming, but when others are also spamming trying to get his message off the screen its annoying as ****.
And whats with that [ ] you put at the end of your messages?

An auction house would be nice, but I would even settle for a barter bag like in FFXI. It was nice setting my prices then going to work for the day and coming home to tons of cash and a clean inventory.

I know from my experience playing WoW that this will help greatly reduce the trade SPAM in the local channel. If Anet were to implement item linking in every channel "Except" the local channel then people will start using the trade channel for selling and buying items simply because of the convenience. Freeing up the local channel for LFG and general chatter.
I am not 100% convinced that an Auction House is the solution though. Auction Houses encourage farming - not the opposite. For a farmer time is a precious commodity and time spent trying to sell your goods is less time spent farming, which IMHO is a good thing for the game. Don't give farmers the easy way out, make them have to be logged and active to sell their goods. Please Anet - don't automate the process for them.

Implement a search engine that doesn't just use the name of the item. For example you type in Sundering Storm Bow of Defense. Once you get that there is a box that shows up showing all the mods possible that can appear on a weapon of that name, you just check off the ones you want and it brings up a list with the specific mods and weapon.

I LOVE this idea.Being Able to put an NPC Shopkeep in your shop would make it alot easier. Maybe Have just the item, and when someone puts an offer in, you get pmed and can choose to accept or not,and maybe put in a counter offer, then the next time you go to your shop theres the money in the till
Then theres the problems of people coming to your shop....
EDIT:WOW i COMPLETELY misunderstood his post.Just realised it. His idea of a search for an item though is still teh r0xors!
